Description
Ethiopia (ETH) Arebegona – Natural Process, Mixed Heirloom: Coffee at its Purest
Ethiopia Arebegona Natural Process – Mixed Heirloom is a refined and vibrant specialty coffee from the high-altitude Arebegona district in southern Ethiopia. This coffee combines traditional craftsmanship with exceptional terroir, offering a complex, fruity, and floral taste experience that is typical of the finest Ethiopian coffees.
Origin: Arebegona, Sidama
Arebegona is located in the Sidama region, one of the most renowned coffee-growing areas in Ethiopia. The coffee is cultivated here at altitudes between 2,100 and 2,300 meters, allowing the cherries to ripen slowly and develop layered flavors. Thanks to volcanic soil, a unique microclimate, and traditional farming methods, this region produces exceptional coffee quality.
Mixed Heirloom: Indigenous Varieties
The term Mixed Heirloom refers to a collection of local, wild Arabica varieties found only in Ethiopia. This genetic diversity provides a rich and distinctive flavor profile, characterized by floral and fruity notes, and is an essential element of Ethiopian specialty coffee.
Natural Process: Natural and Intense
In the natural (dry) process, ripe coffee cherries are sun-dried with the pulp still surrounding the bean. This method imparts a deep natural sweetness and intense fruity flavors. Thanks to careful drying on raised beds, quality remains high and the flavor profile clean and complex.
Flavor Profile
- Aroma: tropical fruit, roses, spicy undertones
- Taste: strawberry, pineapple, jasmine, hibiscus
- Body: medium, elegant
- Acidity: bright, wine-like
- Finish: long, floral, and fruity
This coffee is especially well-suited for filter methods such as V60, Chemex, or batch brew, but also shines as a single origin espresso for a distinctive cup.
