Steven Corveleyn – Founder & Coffee Roaster at The Last Bean

Steven Corveleyn is the current Managing Director of The Last Bean. In addition to this role, he also serves as the local coffee roaster at The Last Bean, where he aims to meet the unspoken need of customers seeking more flavorful coffee.
Steven grew up and went to school in Knokke-Heist (Belgium), where he played football from the youth ranks up to the first team of RKFC.
He graduated with distinction in 1997 as a Master of Chemistry with a specialization in polymer chemistry. Immediately after his studies, in September 1997, he began working at 3M Zwijndrecht as a Technical Service (TS) Engineer. In this role, he was responsible for the technical support and rollout of the perfluoroelastomer product line at selected customers across EMEA.
After two years, he was appointed Engineer for customer support in CEEMEA in the fluoroelastomer product line and the associated markets Automotive End Use, Offshore Downhole, and Aerospace.
In 2009, Steven became supervisor of the TS laboratory and joined the European Business Team within the division. Between 2009 and 2012, he filed 18 patents based on his research work, which resulted in 11 patents granted by the US Patent Office.
In 2012, Steven was appointed European Lab Manager for Research & Development activities within EMEA, supporting the factory and all divisions within 3M. The various R&D laboratories – including PSA (adhesives), fine chemicals, coatings & resins, the scale-up group, the analytical laboratory, and the regulatory group – reported directly to him. In 2021, this group was expanded with the Oral Care laboratory in Seefeld (Germany), bringing the total number of researchers under his supervision to 44.
At the end of 2021, he also took on the role of project leader to map PFAS air emissions from the chemical processes at the site and to report progress regularly to government authorities as well as internal executive management.
Following 3M’s global decision to phase out PFAS products, Steven, as a member of the executive committee (OR), participated in negotiations with employee representatives and trade unions to develop a social plan for collective redundancies in line with the Renault Law.
With the spin-off of 3M Healthcare, 3M reduced its workforce, and at the end of 2024, Steven left the company to fully dedicate himself to his own coffee roasting activities and ad hoc consultancy.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, as well as engaging in various outdoor activities such as cycling, running, fitness, and skiing.
